Ships Pass

Terms of Service

Beta draft — under legal review. Effective August 17, 2026.

The short version

Ships Pass is for adults describing moments, kindly. You must be 18 or older. Write about the moment you shared, not private details that would let strangers hunt someone down. Cruelty is grounds for removal. Posts are reviewed, reports are read by a person, and repeated violations end your account. You own what you write; we need permission to display it, and that's all we take. Meeting people carries real-world risk that no app can remove — be careful, meet in public, trust your instincts.

The rest fills in the details.

Who we are, and agreement

Ships Pass is operated from San Francisco, California. By creating an account or using Ships Pass, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

Eligibility

You must be 18 or older. You must provide accurate account information and keep your account to yourself — one person per account, no sharing credentials, no accounts on someone else's behalf.

What Ships Pass is — and isn't

Ships Pass lets you post about a moment you shared with a stranger in a public place, in case they're looking too. It is not real-time: posts publish the next calendar day (Pacific time), and show only the rough time label you chose. We do not verify anyone's identity. We do not run background checks. We cannot promise that anyone is who they say they are, and we are not responsible for what happens when people meet. If you meet someone: meet in public, tell someone where you're going, and trust your instincts.

The rules

By joining you agree to write kindly. Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Target people. Describe the moment, not the manhunt. No full names of the person you're describing, no workplaces, no license plates, no addresses, no details assembled to identify or locate someone who hasn't chosen to talk to you.
  • Be cruel. No harassment, threats, hate, mockery of the person described or anyone else. Cruelty is grounds for removal — it says so at signup, and we mean it.
  • Post sexual content about non-consenting people, or any content involving minors in any way. This is immediate, permanent removal and, where the law requires, a report.
  • Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation.
  • Stalk or pursue someone through the app after they've blocked you, declined you, or asked you to stop. The block system is a wall, not a suggestion.
  • Spam, advertise, or scrape. No commercial posts, no bots, no automated access, no harvesting content or user information.
  • Circumvent safety systems — the publish delay, orientation gating, blocks, photo gating, or moderation. Attempting to is itself a violation.

Moderation, strikes, and enforcement

Reports are reviewed by a person; only reviewed reports carry consequences. Our standard course is three strikes: reviewed violations escalate from warning, to suspension, to permanent removal. We reserve the right to skip steps for severe violations — threats, sexual content involving minors, doxxing — where a single instance is enough. When content is removed or an account is closed for violations, we retain moderation records as described in the Privacy Policy.

Your content

You own what you write. By posting, you grant Ships Pass a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute your content within the service — that's what lets a post appear to other users, and it's all the license is for. When you delete content, the license ends, except for the internal safety-and-moderation retention described in the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for what you post. Ships Pass hosts user content and does not endorse it.

Subscriptions and payment

Ships Pass has a free tier and a paid tier. The free tier includes one post per day; the paid tier increases that limit and may include other features as described at purchase. Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel anytime and keep access through the end of the paid period.

Termination

You can stop using Ships Pass anytime, and can request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, harm other users, or create legal risk for the service. Where reasonable, we'll tell you why.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Ships Pass is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any connection you hope for will happen. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ships Pass and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for the conduct of any user, online or offline. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Disputes

These Terms are governed by California law. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts of San Francisco County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

Copyright complaints

If you believe content on Ships Pass infringes your copyright, email help@shipspass.com with the details required by the DMCA.

Changes to these Terms

If we change these Terms, we'll update this page and the effective date, and for meaningful changes we'll tell you before they take effect. Continuing to use Ships Pass after changes take effect means you accept them.
